IELTS Speaking: Tips, Techniques & Pre-test practice

IELTS Speaking Test

The IELTS Speaking section of the IELTS test is scheduled separately from the rest of the test.

If you live outside the city where you plan to take your test, the testing center will try to let you complete your IELTS speaking on the same day as the rest of the test.

If you live in the city where your test will be held, your IELTS speaking will probably be scheduled for the day before, or after, the rest of the test.

The IELTS speaking test is the same for both General and Academic students. It is also the same for the paper-based and computer-based tests.

During your IELTS speaking test, your examiner will use prompts from the speaking section of an IELTS exam. The speaking test is in three sections.

* In section 1, you introduce yourself and answer some simple questions about your life experiences
* In section 2, you’ll identify the ‘who’, what’, ‘where’, ‘when’, ‘why’ and ‘how’ of a given experience
* In section 3, you’ll provide well-developed responses to increasingly abstract questions
