Essay Correction for IELTS, CAEL, and CELPIP 

Ottawa English offers essay correction, tutoring, and workshops for students preparing for CELPIP, IELTS, and CAEL.

You can submit any essay for correction, but please remember to include the question.

The writing section in each of the tests requires you to write two tasks. Each task is a little different.

IELTS Academic Task 1 

The first task asks you to prepare a report about a diagram. The diagram may be a graph, a bar chart, a map, a table, a process, or a pie chart.

Your essay must have:

* A restatement of the question.
* An overview that identifies the significant trends.
* At least two paragraphs that expand on the significant trends you’ve identified with details.
* A conclusion identifying any areas of similarity of difference.

IELTS General Task 1

The first task asks you write a letter. Topics vary but often involve a complaint or a request for information.

Your letter must have:

* An introduction that identifies the purpose of your letter.
* Paragraphs that develop the bulleted points.
* A conclusion or concluding sentence.
* An appropriate salutation

IELTS Task 2

IELTS General and IELTS Academic use the same task 2 in writing. You should be ready to discuss or offer your opinion about common topics.

Remember that your essay must have:

* An introduction that identifies the main ideas you intend to develop.
* Paragraphs that develop your main ideas with details.
* A conclusion

CELPIP Task 1

The first task asks you write an email. Topics vary, but you should be ready to write about every day experiences and things that people often complain or need more information about, like: neighbours, restaurants, hotels, customer service, courses, delays, and common services.

Your email must have:

* An introduction that identifies the purpose of your email.
* At least two paragraphs that develop the bulleted points.
* A conclusion or concluding sentence.
* An appropriate salutation

CELPIP Task 2

The second task asks you to respond to a survey. It usually offers two alternatives and asks you to justify your preference. The topics are quite varied, but you should be ready to offer your opinion about common topics.

Remember that your response must have:

* An introduction that identifies your main ideas.
* Paragraphs that develop your main ideas.
* A conclusion or concluding sentence.

CAEL Task 1

Topic 2 in part 4 of the CAEL test asks you write an essay discussing or offering your opinion about the content of the article and lecture you read and listen to in part 4. The topics for this section are often based on subjects that fall under the ‘Arts’ or ‘Sciences’ at universities.

Your essay must have:

* An introduction that paraphrases the question and outlines your position.
* At least two paragraphs that develop your position.
* A conclusion.

CAEL Task 2

Topic 3 in part 5 of the CAEL writing test asks you to summarize the main points of either the writing or the lecture in part 5. The topics can be anything considered to be an ‘art’ or a ‘science’ such as ‘business communication, criminology, economics, health sciences, astronomy, etc.

Remember that your response must have:

* An introductory statement.
* Well-developed ideas.
* A concluding sentence.
