CELPIP or IELTS: Think Strengths & Weaknesses!

If you’re thinking about CELPIP vs IELTS to decide which is easiest, you should consider which of your language skills are strongest.

Many people think:

* CELPIP Reading and Listening is easier than IELTS Reading and Listening. Often, these people have difficulty with IELTS ‘ question format and work better with CELPIP’s multiple choice answers

* CELPIP Speaking and Writing is harder than IELTS Speaking and Writing. Typically, these people are uncomfortable delivering CELPIP’s short presentations and prefer talking to an IELTS examiner face-to-face. For writing, they find the typing requirement taxing.

For both CELPIP or IELTS your English needs to be at or above the level you need to achieve in the test.

CELPIP vs IELTS: Think Recognition

CELPIP and IELTS are recognized differently:

* IELTS is more portable than CELPIP because it is recognized globally.
* CELPIP is only recognized in Canada.

CELPIP vs IELTS: Think Skillset

In most places IELTS is a paper-based test although some centers are beginning to offer a computer-based test. Whether you take the paper-based test or computer-based test, your speaking test will be with a person.

CELPIP is a computer based test. All four sections of the test, including the speaking section, are completed on a computer.

CELPIP vs IELTS: Think Validity

CELPIP and IELTS are valid for different times

* IELTS is valid for 2 years.
* CELPIP is valid for different periods depending on the institution

CELPIP or IELTS: How do they differ?

Some testing centers use a single sound source for everyone in the room. That can make it very difficult to hear tall of the details you need for your answers, especially if someone is coughing! Other test centers use headphones. Make sure you check with the testing center before you register.
