Preparing for the CELPIP Speaking Tasks

These CELPIP Speaking Examples will help you understand how to get your score in the CELPIP Test.

As you prepare for the CELPIP speaking tasks, remember to use the structures appropriate to the score you need to achieve.

The examiner will also consider how well you:

* organize and express your ideas
* use your vocabulary
* pronounce your words
* answer the question

Score 1-4 on the CELPIP Speaking Tasks 

Students who answer the questions with a limited vocabulary and basic structures are unlikely to score more than 4 on the test.

Asked to describe this candle, students at this level might say:

“The candle is burning.”

 

Score 5-8 on the CELPIP Speaking Tasks 

Students who answer the questions with a good vocabulary and basic structures are unlikely to score more than 8 on the test.

Students at this level prefer to talk about concrete situations. Asked to describe this candle, students at this level might say:

“The candle has been lit and is burning brightly.”

Score 9-12 on the CELPIP Speaking Tasks 

Students who answer the questions with a strong vocabulary and advanced structures are likely to score more than 9 on the test.

Students at this level  are able to speak efficiently about abstract situations. Asked to describe this candle they might say:

“The lit candle is burning brightly without a hint of a flicker suggesting that the room has neither drafts, movement, nor fans.”
